Even though I have nothing to write about I'm finding I want to write about something . Maybe it's because I've been working from home the last 2 weeks (too lazy to get dressed and get out in this rain) so I feel like I've lost all contact with the real world and real people. And with all the rain we've had I've been locked away in my house until a little sun shines through then I can go out for a few minutes. Only to be chased back in with lighting and thunder... Right now this is my only way of reaching out to life in the outside world. I've tried talking to the dogs but so far they haven't figured out how to respond; unless its with licks and tales wagging. Speaking of dogs, my yard hasn't been mowed in over a week so I'm starting to lose them back there... and I don't have small dogs people. And for the most fantastic news of all, my dryer broke last Thursday, I apparently need a new circuit board so I'm anxiously waiting for that to show up. I have clothes hanging up all over the house to dry which is about to drive me nuts. Towels hanging over chairs, socks and underwear spread out over the bed on towels or hanging over my foot board, clothes on the dryer rack, clothes on door frames... it's a mess I tell you, just a mess! Not to mention I HATE the feel of crispy clothes... especially jeans. And since jeans is all I wear, yes I know it's like 80 degrees here, but I have to cover up these pale pasty white girl legs with jeans. (Speak of the devil it's 3:30 PM and I hear thunder in the distance again....so another night of being locked up. ) The worse part about the storms is having Direct TV, whom I'm not friends with right now. Every time the wind blows, clouds cover, or rain comes Direct TV decides it would be funny to go out. I'm addicted to American Idol and Dancing with the Stars....well of course last week when both shows had their 2 hour finale I think I saw 20 minutes of each show. You have no idea how mad I was that night.... it wasn't pretty that's for sure. So not only are we locked up but we can't even enjoy our shows because my satellite can't keep a signal. I'm sure there are other things Michael and I could be doing but you know....takes more work.
I know I'm sad, I'm pathetic and I need a life.... so maybe I should stop writing and go find one.
Peace Out....word to your mother, your brother, and your sista too!

Memorial Day

Even though I don't currently have family serving in a military branch I do come from a family with grandfathers, father, uncle, and cousin who have served. I also know several people who have loved ones currently serving in our military. Even though 'thank you' isn't enough it's all I can come up with. Thank you for giving up your life to fight for mine. Thank you for giving up your family and your life of comfort to defend my freedom; freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and a freedom to live as I am. Thank you for putting your life in harms way daily to stand up for our country and the several million/billion people you've never met. Your courage, your honor, your dedication, and your selflessness has not gone unnoticed. I pray the Lord is keeping you strong and bringing a peace to you like no other in a time of uncertainty and during your deployment when every minute is a gift. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service. You all are on my heart daily but especially today as we remember those who have fallen!

Sweet Faces
I volunteer with an organization just about every Saturday called Hope Therapy. I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be on Saturday than with the new friends, both two legged and four legged. Here are some of the sweet faces of our program with more to come next weekend when I finish taking the photos.

Harry on Lilly practicing his trotting
Jiggy, our miniature horse and resident stallion.
Becky with Maddison riding Jiggy
Some of the other Saturday volunteers (Kate in pink and Kayla in the gray)
Dakota is a Quarter horse is in late teens.... he is so sweet and so tolerant. He's one of the best horses we have. I just love him. Towards the end of the lesson he starts smaking his lips together lettings us know it's time for his carrots.
Here's Cool, another Quarter horse (his registered name is I'm A Cool Attraction). He's the one I ride on occasion when I can.
Lilly, she's an Appaloosa we use over at the other facility, Bridlewood. We go over there for the afternoons because they have a covered arena which is soooo nice to be under during this hot Florida sun.

On the Road Again
We went to Orlando last weekend to see Michael's parents and his sister. She's moved into a new condo which she purchased on May 4th and it's pretty cute. Michael and I took Friday off and drove down early so we could eat lunch with them and Debra was coming to meet us after she finished her clinical. It was a nice lunch and it was great catching up with Debra who I felt like I haven't seen in awhile. Then on Saturday we went down to a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game in St. Pete. The game itself was fun but the cops in St. Pete are horrible at directing traffic. Let's just say a trained group of lab rats would have done a better job with the traffic control. I pulled out into the intersection on purpose because that was the only way I was getting through that area within the hour. And as the woman officer approached my window, all 4 New Yorkers in my car started yelling at her... to which point I didn't even roll down my window because we probably would have been arrested right then. Being in a car with 4 screaming New Yorkers is like being in a room of 50 kids; very loud. Anyway...... overall we had a great time at the ball game and it was weird being in a closed dome for a baseball game. Then on Sunday we went to lunch for Mr. S birthday; which was nice. You know us kids, we tried to pick up the bill for him but he wouldn't hear of it... :)))
Anyway, enough yapping here are pictures of 3.4 pound Charlie, Dawn's dog. He's so sweet and he was cracking me up all weekend while we played. He's so low to the ground he drags his butt when he runs... its the funniest thing ever.
I just love this picture of him with his tongue sticking out.

He's looking to pounce me because I have his toy but he's too little to jump off the couch...hahah poor Charlie
Dorothy trying to get us to tell her what's in her present before she opens it... ummm if you would just stop asking and start opening you'd find out sooner.... :)))) That woman is so funny, I just love her!
The Tampa Bay Rays stadium.... Tropicana Field (as if you couldn't tell from the giant green neon sign)
I just love a man in uniform....
STTTTTRRRRIKE 1...
Each player walks out to a song when they approach home plate, most are rap or pop songs. But not this guy Gabe Gross.... he came out to a Christian song which I thought was so cool. You go boy!
After our weekend with his family we went to Megan's to see her new apartment where she and Debra are shacking up for the next 8 weeks. Megan lives close to the Bee Line Expressway/528, so Michael and I feeling adventurous and not wanting to go all the way back down I-4 took 528 to 407, to I 95 N home which really worked out to be 170 miles or 2 1/2 hours so it wasn't bad. We probably could have made it home sooner but we got stuck in the Sunday night monsoon that started off our last 5 days of rain. Here are pictures from that trip home....why I took them I'm not totally sure. I probably had a good reason at the time but can't remember what it is now.... other than I was bored and I'm trying to figure out what 'aperture' and 'ISO' means on my camera and how to use the settings.... Yeah that's it - that's why I took this boring picture.

May Showers Brings Floods
As of this past weekend Jacksonville hadn't had rain in over 25 days. Thank the Lord that is now over and it's been raining since Sunday. The state of FL had over 200 wild fires burning due to our extremely dry conditions. And our entire state is getting the kind of rain we are thanks to a low pressure system from the south and a high pressure sytem from the north met in the middle and we are in the middle of a 'Nor Eastern. Seems like hurricane season has started early for us because of the rain and winds we are having. So even though it's been raining 4 days straight I'll take it. It will lighten up some but I don't think it's stopped raining since Sunday night. The only difficult part for me about the rain is I have one dog who is smart enough to stand under the tree and do her biziness but the other stands on the concrete with her ears pinned back making her look like a lamb. We run out there and have to literally push her off into the yard; which I'm now calling Lake Savery.
And I know I'm a dork but I love it when our yard floods and even more I love it when the family farm floods. So I've been on a quest taking pictures today of our yard and the farm.... I know start the cartwheels now this is exciting stuff people.

Mother's Day Pictures
Now that Mother's Day has come and gone I can show you the pictures that Kim was gracious enough to take of Michael, Dawn (sister in law) and I for his mom. Dorothy doesn't have any pictures of her kids at this age so I thought it would be fun to give her some. She seemed really exicted and surprised when she opened them; although I'll admit I was hoping for some tears but none were shed...haha Here are some of the ones we framed for her along with some of my favorites.

No that's not a stuffed dog; he's real... all 3 pounds of him. That's Charlie, Dawn's new puppy.

Party In My Mouth
On the last night of our bible study we all decided to bring food in and enjoy dinner together. Of course some of my favorites from the evening were dessert related....... go figure. With the exception of this one, it's a healthy alternative to salsa. Christy made a Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon chips and it was to die for. I seriously wanted to take the bowl with a large spoon and just eat it that way. But didn't figure that would be a good idea seeing as my bible study we just finished was about discipline and self control with food..... So against my stomach's wants I ate this with a few of the chips. I wanted to share this recipe with you all especially with the weather getting hot, this is a great hot afternoon snack which might even be better if it were mixed with an adult fruity/frozen beverage of some sort.... Or even with a cold diet coke would bring you pleasure too. I'll share some of the other recipes with you guys later. But for now here you go.... Enjoy!
Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips
Ingredients for Salsa:
2 kiwis, peeled and diced into small pieces
8 ounces of raspberries, pulled apart into slightly smaller pieces
1 pound of strawberries, diced into small pieces
1 tablespoon of white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons of brown sugar
3 tablespoons of preserves (I used Polaner's All Fruit apricots, but you can vary this)
2 Fuji apples, peeled and diced into small pieces (do this after everything else is mixed to avoid browning)
Directions for Salsa:
Prepare all fruit, except for the apples. Combine the fruits, sugars and preserves in a large bowl. Last, peel and dice apples and add to mixture. Cover and refrigerate at least 15 minutes. (I did this a couple of hours before serving, and it worked well)
Ingredients for Chips:
20 (10 inch) flour tortillas
Butter-flavored cooking spray
Cinnamon sugar (I used a ratio of 1 cup sugar to 1 tsp cinnamon)
Directions for Chips:
Preheat over to 350 degree. Lightly spray one side of tortilla, sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar, and slice with a pizza cutter into triangles. Place in a single layer on ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes (or longer depending on your pan) until they just begin to brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. They will harden as they cool. Repeat with remaining tortillas. Store in an airtight container.
For healthy alternatives use 1 tsp of brown sugar and whole wheat tortillas.

Oh How I Loathe You....
Little black thing that jumps out of no where and comes at me as if you enjoy watching while I die a slow death from a heart attack. You shouldn't be allowed to hide in neighborhoods, your home is in the woods or near a pond where the food supply is better. I'm still not sure why you have picked my yard as your vacation spot but nonetheless you are one guest that has over stayed its welcome. I did find out that apparently you aren't a fan of water and didn't appreciate the bath I tried to give you with the water hose... I thought I was being smart and chasing you out of my yard but apparently I chased you into a thicker shelter. Needless to say you are now taking refuge in my border grass that lines my back porch. And oh how I would appreciate if you would pick up your belongings, and any friends/family you have, and move to the people behind me. We don't like them so much and they have a nice wood pile for you to climb/slither whatever it is you do, it's all creepy to me. Their wood pile and shrubs could provide you with better shelter.... scouts honor. I on the other hand thought I had taken away your playground by removing the shed but apparently there is something about my yard that you like. And please don't let this hurt your feelings but you aren't as cute as you think you are, just because you are long and skinny , that doesn't make you 'pretty' despite what the front of the magazine says, nor are you welcome.... out of all the 80x120 lots in the neighborhood, I can't figure out why you have picked mine. Is it because of the infestation of lizards? Is it because of the bugs in my yard?? Is it the gross frogs that stick to my windows and line my driveway? Oh how I wish you didn't make my heart jump and my mouth scream words that should only come from a sailor. Maybe one day I will learn to tolerate you and your existence... but for now I'd appreciate if you'd go back to the other side of the yard where I can pretend you don't live instead of the bushes close to my screen door that I have to let the dogs in and out of.
No hard feelings though, ok??? Thank you for your cooperation and understanding of my feelings, or lack there of towards you.

Mother's Day...Installment # 2
Since my parents, brother/sister in law, and two other sisters are all out of town this weekend, leaving only 2 of us in town I decided to skip church this morning. Lord forgive me, but I just needed a day to sleep past 6:30 and a day to rejuvenate myself and possibly stay in bed all day under my new down comforter - I haven't quite decided yet.
Instead I decided to start catching up on the blogs I've missed over the last few days to see if there are any new post. And because I stalk, I mean frequently read the PW site because one she's hilarious, and two I think I'm living vicariously through her since I've always wanted to be a cowgirl with my own farm...but I digress and that's another story for another day. Anyway, back to reality, her post today was about the influence her mom and grandma had on her. She asked her readers the following: Please share about the women in your life—how they shaped you and influenced your thinking, how they impacted the way you think. And naturally because I'm in a sappy mood today since it's Mother's Day.... don't ask why Mother's and Father's day always brings tears to my eyes and leaves me weepy for the day. I started thinking about her question. As I started thinking, I also started writing and below is what flew onto paper. Keep in mind I had to make myself stop writing , so there is a lot that is left out here but had I continued I might have ended up with a 20 page dissertation for Mother's Day.
I would say that my whole life has been surrounded by strong woman; my mom, Grandma B (mom’s mom), my Grandma D (dad’s mom), and now my mother in law. There are five kids (4 girls and 1 boy) in my family so raising us wasn’t exactly an easy task because even though we are all from the same family we are all so different. Totally different friends (as in the type of people we hung around), different likes, dislikes, learning styles, personalities, and the list goes on and boy does it. There wasn’t a boring day to be had around our house and my mom was always on her toes. We were fortunate enough to have a mom who stayed home with us while my father ran his business to support us. My mom was always dropping us off at school, picking us up (we never rode the bus only because we lived on a farm and the bus didn’t come to our house), helping with homework, science fair projects, and she always encouraged us to get involved. Whether we got involved through team sports or clubs at school; she was always pushing us (but in a good way) to be a part of something even when she knew it meant she was going to have to be our taxi. She was involved with our schools, enjoyed going to our high school sporting events, and all my friends loved her. I had a few friends who called her their adopted mom because she was an encourager to them as well when things around their house weren’t so good. My mom is gentle, caring, loving, tender, quiet, strong, has a sweet giggle, and although sometimes hard to make her have a laugh out loud but when she does it’s normally uncontrollable and followed by tears because she’s letting out a good one. With now 3 of her 4 daughters married we can only hope that one day we’ll be the kind of mom she is.
I grew up in a family that possessed, and still possess, strong Christian morals and values and I would say that’s because of my grandmothers who passed that down to my mom and dad. We used to laugh and say my Grandma B had a direct like to God because when that woman prayed it was like the heavens opened; she had such a beautiful spirit about her. People who met her fell in love with her instantly; you just smiled every time you saw her. She gave some of the best hugs too; she held you tight every time like it might be her last. Thinking about the day back in November 2002 when I got my phone call of her passing it still brings tears to my eyes; it’s just not something I’ll ever forget because that was a day we lost one of the most influential women in our family. My grandmother D is still alive, in her mid 80’s, still acts as though she’s 60 and she is the cutest thing in the world. She too posses a deep love for Jesus that she loves to share with family and strangers. She dealt with some rough blows for many years while my my grandfather lived with Alzheimers but she managed to keep her wits about her and kept him at home with her taking care of him even up to the day of his death. She’s a strong woman, a faithful woman of God, fun loving, will drop everything she’s doing to help someone, is a little scatter brained, hates caterpillars, but loves life. And oh how we all love her and her daily stories of life.... not sure how she manages but 9 times out of 10 she's in some sort of pickle throughout the day. And she's a cool hip grandma on Facebook too... :))
I couldn’t be more proud of the women in my life, I love them all madly, and know they have shaped me into the woman I am today. And for that I’m forever grateful.

Happy Mother's Day
Happy Mother's Day to my moms, grandma, sister in law, and friends!
I think that on a day like today you should all be recognized for the amazing job you do as mothers. You each possess different qualities and characteristics that make you some of the world's best moms. You have some of the toughest jobs with raising children in a world like ours; yet it's one of the most rewarding. You each bring Christian morals and values to your families and make sure your kids know Jesus and love Him the same passion you do. It's so amazing when you you see your 20 month old niece and 3 year old nephew raise their hands in the air every time their mom says "Praise the Lord", or to hear your nephew ask about saying the blessing before dinner and grabbing hands while he waits. To hear your best friends daughter asking about going to church and walking so willingly into her class with a smile on her face because she loves to hear about Jesus. And for her to ask for Christian stories that are on dvd or books because her mother has instilled a love of Jesus in her from the beginning. Or to see Tracy's (my 2nd mom as I lovingly call her) 18 year old son stand up for what he believes in, in front of his friends at high school because he doesn't care what they say/think about him. For him to know and understand our God and stand firm in his faith; he didn't get that on his own it came from the teachings and love of his mother (well and father but this is mothers day after all). All of these little moments, of which there are so many more, bring tears to my eyes and a joy to my heart that cannot be explained.
Not only have each of these woman had an impact on their children but they have also had an impact on me. Each one has meant something different, yet so very special to me throughout my life. I will be eternally grateful for these woman that the Lord has blessed me with. I love you all deeply and pray you all have a blessed Mother's Day!!

Mixed Emotions
Where do I start and how do I make this all make sense without it seeming so scattered like grains of sand on the beach (okay that was way too deep for this time of night.)
Anyway, as I played phone tag with Megan this weekend, I finally caught up with her tonight around 9 and she said she was still in Orlando unpacking and getting her apartment put together. Which according to her just looks soooo cute, said in that cute valley voice of Megan. I think it finally hit me tonight that my little sister, 7 years my junior, is moving to Orlando. She is going down there for 2 years to finish up her schooling and get a degree in Hospitality Management (I hope I have this right) at the Rosen Shingle College of Hospitality of Central Florida. I couldn't be more proud of Megan in making the decision to finish out her college career and pursue something she is so good at; planning parties, special events, and bossing people around....haha Although I'm proud of her I'm also sad to see her go as she brings a certain element of excitement when she walks into a room. It'll be weird to not have her around when we have family gatherings, to not be able to call her last minute to help me find makeup, and of course most importantly I'm losing my dog sitter... :))) (j/k Megan)
Megan has always had a flare for drama, both good and bad drama. Whenever she is around there is always a story to be told. From the day that girl could grunt and point she was bossing her 4 older siblings around and telling us what she wanted without using her words. She could just stand there with a passie(passy - how is this word spelled) in her mouth, big brown eyes starring at you she grabbed our fingers, drug us to her destination, and then came the point and grunt at what she wanted. Well Megan finally learned to talk (and hasn't stopped yet) and she's still bossing us around. She has an uncanny ability to con anyone into anything and you aren't even sure how you got there. All you know is that Megan asked and somehow there you are; I've been a victim of many of these times. Things that include driving her to friends houses, picking her up from places (that shall remain nameless), taking her to lunch/dinner, moving her into her first apartment that oh by the way was on the 3rd floor, and she has the ability to get Michael to buy her anything. Which apparently I need to learn how to do...
Not only is she fun to be with but she's a smart, beautiful, and an outgoing 23 year old who loves life. She is self assured and when she puts her mind to something she doesn't stop until she gets it. She has a passion to help people and it shows at her job at Maggiano's when she has to run the floor and keep hungry customers happy during the 30 min, 60 min, or 90 minute wait. Unless of course if you are family then we can sneak into booth 200 the moment we walk up, but shhh don't tell anyone.
Even though I'm prone to give Megan a hard time it's just my way of showing her I love her. She's such a special part of our family and of our lives, and most importantly of my life. That girl is just so stinking cute I don't know whether to hug her or pinch her booty. She's meant a lot to me and has been there for every happy and sad occasion in my life. She'll be one of the first to laugh with me and she's the first to cry with me. I cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store for her as she starts this new part of her life in Orlando. I pray that he will protect her on this new journey and that he will surround her with a group of friends that share the same morals, values, and interest as she does. Megan I'm so very proud of you for going back to school, even though you are 2 1/2 hours away, I'm so excited to watch you grow over these next 2 years and I can't wait to see where this industry takes you...which hopefully is back here to Jacksonville. :) There is a rule that no one in our family can live more than 30 miles away.... I didn't make that up dad did. I love you kid!
.....of course if 3 pages on Megan isn't enough - my other youngest sister Debra is down in Orlando with her. The thought of these two sharing a queen bed in a one bedroom apartment over the next 6 weeks cracks me up. Even though they were the best of buddies growing up - they haven't lived together in many years. All I'll say is my last memory of them living together in my parents house ended in several holes in the walls of the house... that poor house took a beating with 5 kids. Girls just remember - never go to bed mad. Debra is a crazy book smart kid that we think came from the milk man or something. We aren't sure where she came from because this kid can't find her way out of paper bag but she knows her way around the human body. And no not in that way you perverts... she's in school getting her doctorate in physical therapy. Her internship is down in Orlando at the Orlando Regional Medical Center. Even though she's finished with classes for now, she still has to start studying for her boards for when she graduates. So she's not out of the woods yet but I'm sure she'll be one of the highest scorers as I don't think she's made less than a B+ her whole time in school and that is no easy feat. Debra even though I'm crazy jealous of you and the larger than average brain you have, I'm so proud of you too. I'm proud of all your accomplishments with physical therapy school and I know without a shadow of a doubt that all of your hard work will pay off. We can't wait to have you back in 6 weeks because it's just weird thinking about both you and Megan not living here. I know you are going to learn some much from this internship and that the people there are just going to fall in love with you. You have an awesome sense of humor, a beautiful smile (you still suck for never needing braces), and people are just drawn to your beauty. Just remember to speak to them in plain American Standard English and not those crazy words from your medical books....and you'll do just fine. Good luck and I can't wait to hear about your first day on the 'J-O-B'.... Love you too kid!
Love your favorite sister - but don't worry I won't tell Danette.
Lazy Sunday Afternoon or Spoiled Rotten (you be the judge)
So this is apparently how we are spending our Sunday afternoon, or rather how Bailey feels like we should spend the day. How is it that the dogs run my household, what happened to me being the Alpha female.....guess that concept never caught on around here. I'm still trying after 4 1/2 years though; at least I can't be called a quitter.
